Why Take CBD? What We've Learned and Our Experience

Many people have heard that cannabidiol (CBD) is “helping” people all over the world, but, for some, it is still a mystery and confusing as to what the product actually is and why it may be helping millions of people right now! This blog post will give you some insight into our knowledge of CBD and our experience with CBD products.

What We've Learned:

For starters, we are talking about CBD from hemp, NOT marijuana. Although CBD can be found in both types of cannabis plants, only HEMP based CBD is legal in all states due to the 2018 Farm Bill (if you are a lawyer like me, or just enjoy reading 1000 page statutes, feel free to take a gander at the bill by clicking here!). The main difference between hemp and marijuana is that hemp plants have less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) meaning you can’t get "high" from them.
OK, now that we’ve cleared that up, back to the lovely world of CBD. CBD is one of the main cannabinoids (or compounds) found in hemp (there are over 100 cannabinoids in the hemp plant and more being discovered every day!). Researchers have found that there are many benefits to CBD including, but not limited to, relieving anxiety, depression, pain (move over Tylenol and Advil), inflammation, improving sleep, and more (see attached article). How amazing is it that? We have an all natural way to relieve pain, inflammation and help get our bodies back on track.
Without getting too scientific here, from what we’ve learned, the body has an endocannabinoid system. This system produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to or stimulate certain cannabinoid receptors (this can occur with cannabinoids found in the hemp plant) (see attached resource). Wait, so our body is already set up to accept and react to these cannabinoids? YUP! And people are finding that the cannabinoids in hemp have therapeutic properties without getting you high? YUP! And it’s 100% legal? YUP AGAIN!
Where do I sign up?! ;) But seriously, this is a fascinating plant that has been found to get your system working properly again. We don’t necessarily see it as a be all end all, but if you truly believe in the power of plants (which we do!) and you have some deficiencies right now (who doesn’t?!), then CBD may be worth a try. Plus it has also been found to not have many negative side effects. So while we have seen it truly help a lot of people, including ourselves, others may not find it as helpful, but that usually means their endocannabinoid system is working properly (yay for them!). Since most bodies are lacking something, CBD could be a good way to start to get your body back on track and living a happy, healthy life.
Also, don’t forget, if you get oil or lotion that is a “whole plant extract” or “full spectrum” like our products, then that means you are getting ALL of the cannabinoids from the plant in your products, not just CBD. Some researchers suggest that having all the cannabinoids in a product is better because the cannabinoids can work together to give you the most overall benefits from the plant.

Our Experience:

As for my experience (Courtney here!), I have been taking our very own Addison Farm 600 mg CBD Oil for months now. If you know me, you know that I am a bit of a health nut when it comes to what I put in my body. When I was pregnant with our daughter, I only ate organic everything, drank plenty of water, never had a sip of soda or anything caffeinated, no alcohol (obviously!), stayed away from candy and sweets all together, worked out almost everyday and switched all of my hair/makeup/skin products to all natural products. After having our daughter, Addison, I continued with the healthy stuff up until this day! One reason was because of nursing and wanting to give my daughter the best I could and two because I believe that health starts from the inside out. What we put into our bodies and how we treat our bodies (former soccer player here) will mold our health (complexion, hair, weight, strength, ability to fight off illnesses, etc.).
So you can imagine how disappointed I was when I started getting terrible stomach aches after having our daughter. They were debilitating, to the point where I would be in a ball on the ground for 30-60 minutes before they subsided. It was awful! I got every test, scan, ultrasound and numerous blood work done to try to figure it out. And the doctors came back with NOTHING! I was “fine”, but clearly I wasn’t fine. I was a healthy 34 year old that was shocked by terrible pain everyday for no reason. They suggested that I take some sort of antacid everyday (what would that end up doing to my system?!) or some other over-the-counter pain medicine. Not wanting to take medicine for no reason (there was no diagnosis), I decided to take a different route. I decided to try our very own Addison Farm CBD Oil to see if I could get my system working properly again with a natural remedy that had a number of other benefits too. Fortunately, we had just finished formulating our CBD oil from our organically grown pesticide free hemp, which was organically extracted and mixed with organic MCT Oil (wow - that’s a lot of “organic” in one sentence!). And the results? I can honestly say I have not had a debilitating stomach ache in 2 months since starting the CBD oil! What?! How is that possible? Since I am not a doctor or scientist, I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that my gut was somehow inflamed and the anti-inflammatory and pain relief properties of the hemp plant calmed it down. It has changed my life!! I could not be happier and I feel so much better! The pain is gone, I seem calmer throughout the day, I sleep better and I feel a more overall sense of wellness. I know it’s hard to believe that it could help that much. People are quick to push plants to the side, but there are some wonderful properties of this plant that may be worth checking out. All I can tell you is the information I’ve learned along the way and my personal experience with CBD. So for what it’s worth, there it is!
In conclusion, everyone is still learning about this plant, but from what we have seen so far and from our own experiences, it has shown a lot of potential!  If you want to give it a try, feel free to check out our product page or send us a message/give us a call with any questions!
